Lucille Blockland (nee Sopkowe)
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of an amazing wife, mother, garba, grandma, cousin, friend and faithful servant of God on October 16th, 2017 at the age of 74. Lucille taught us all to see the good in everyone and that we are not on this earth for ourselves but we are here to make lives better for others. She inspired all who knew her.
Beloved wife and best friend of Peter (Papa) and amazing mother to Rick (Andrea) Popiez, Dave (Tammy) Popiez, Shawn (Kerri) Popiez, Greg (Debbie) Blokland, Lori ( Rheal) Belanger, 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Loving sister to Mark (Mary) Sopkowe, Tom (Tina) Sopkowe. Predeceased by parents Lauraine and Stan Sopkowe and granddaughter Elysia
Lucille was a long-time parishioner of Blessed Sacrament and Sacred Heart Parishes, long-time employee of Eaton’s, and unofficial president and leader of her many clubs including the “Girls Club”, “Breakfast Club”, “Myrtle Beach Club", "Quilting Club", "Swimming Club" and "Painting Club".
She will be sadly missed by her family, “the cousins”, close friends and by all those that knew her.
Special thanks to her home palliative care team (nurse Marian from Bayshore, Dr. Samantha Winemaker and case manager Jane), the Juravinski cancer and palliative care teams, the amazing staff of ward C3, the caring and compassionate staff of Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice and Maggi from Emmanuel House.
Visitation will be at the M.A. CLARK & SONS FUNERAL HOME (567 Upper Wellington Street) on Friday from 2:00-4:00p.m. and 7:00-9:00p.m. Funeral mass will be at MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (305 East 37th Street, Hamilton) on Saturday at 10:00a.m. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre.
