Gladys Smith

September 25, 1928 - January 16, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that our beloved Mother, Gladys (Władysława) Smith (Kapron) quickly and peacefully, at 96, slipped away in the early hours of January 16, 2025. Born in Poland, and coming to Canada as a child, this was a woman who faced challenges head on and defeated them one by one. Whether it was the loss of her father early in her life, her years of hard work, her breast cancer recovery, her family losses, her husband's difficult Alzheimer's journey or her own health challenges, which she faced in later years, she tackled them all with grace, generosity and kindness. Most recently, her new doctor told us that the first word he wrote down on her chart was ENCHANTING and that was her, even at 96. Residents and caregivers alike at her Retirement Homes often commented on how lovely she was to everyone.
Whenever we asked Mom how she was she would smile and say - everything is hunky dory. How wonderful that those were her final words. Well Mom, now that those hips no longer give you pain, and that your memory is no longer a challenge, we can take comfort knowing that now EVERYTHING truly is hunky dory. We will always love and miss you. Here's to nothing but lone hands and big jackpots.
Special thank you to those who cared for her and helped make her feel at home at Tansley Woods and Wentworth Heights. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local Breast Cancer organization.
