Rev Frederick Roberts

October 29, 1927 - April 15, 2024

Surrounded by the profound love of his family, near and far, The Rev. Canon Frederick Gordon Roberts passed quietly from this earthly life on April 15, 2024, at age 96.

Frederick was born in Fort William, Ontario, predeceased by parents Gordon and Elizabeth Roberts, survived by his sister, Freda Barber.

He was called to the Anglican ministry at the age of 23, studying at Trinity College, McGill University (Div. 1956) and Laurentian University (BA 1969).

Fred was ordained an Anglican priest in 1956, in Algoma diocese. He was held in high esteem as rector in Blind River (Elliot Lake), Sudbury, Haileybury (Cobalt, Temagami), Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay. Fred made a profound impact on the lives of others through his ministry with his deep love of God. Fred was made a Canon in Algoma in 1983. He and his 'Jeanie' retired to Stoney Creek in 1994 where he became Honorary Assistant at St. Michael's church.

Fred's childhood included fond memories of large family meals, singing around the piano, his father at the keyboard and church socials.

Frederick married the great love of his life (Margaret) Jean Roberts in 1956. Proud father of David Roberts (Marilyn), Margaret Taylor (Dave), Mary Burfoot (Philip), Anne Barnhill (Alan). He will be deeply missed by grandchildren Gareth, Brian, Blake, Meaghan, Kathleen, Sarah, Tara and Charlotte. Doting great grandfather of Danica, Connery, Theodore and Silas. Survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fred will be remembered as a lifelong learner, with his extensive vocabulary, sense of humor, and love of music and good food.

Special thanks to Linda (home care nurse), palliative care staff at St. Peter's Hospital and ministering clergy who did so much to keep him comfortable in his final months.

Visitation at M. A. Clark Funeral Home, Upper Wellington, Hamilton on Friday, April 26, 6-8 pm. Funeral service at St. Michael's Anglican Church, Fennell Ave. on Saturday, April 27, 11 am.

Flowers declined due to family allergies. Donations to PWRDF, or St. Michael's Anglican Church, Hamilton, or CAP Hamilton in Dad's honour would be appreciated.

My deepest condolences to your family on the loss of a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather. Canon Roberts guided me through my confirmation, performed my wedding , and baptized my daughter. He was also our neighbour growing up in Thunder Bay. His impact on the lives he touched was immense. May you find comfort in your memories filled with love and much laughter .

We were so very saddened to hear of the passing of Reverend Roberts.
Ever since my (Bens) first visit to Canada, I have always considered the Burfoot family my bonus-family, and by extension Fred and Jean Roberts as bonus-grandparents. When I brought my future wife to visit, she experienced the same love and acceptance as I did, not least from Reverend Roberts.
We send all of our love in these difficult times.

Forever in our hearts.
