Marilyn and Family... so very sorry to hear of the passing of Doug. Such a great man. Joe has nothing but fond memories of the time he was in school with Doug. I swear every time we would encounter him Joe would tell me that he was such a great teacher and such a nice man. It is never a good time to lose such an enormously important part of your family. We wish you lots of love and are sending prayers.

My deepest sympathies to Marilyn and her family. My association with Doug goes back many years. The fifties to be exact. Later working with him at Riddell , singing in the Men Teachers' Choir and with the St. Andrew's choir. Doug was a man who loved his family, his job and his church. He leaves me with many fond memories.

Marilyn and family, My condolences to you at this time. I worked with Doug at Armstrong. He was a kind and thoughtful person who was always willing to help anyone who asked. I also very much enjoyed his sense of humour.

I worked with Doug at RA Riddell School. Doug was a hard worker who always tried to make the day better for everyone whether they were a student or an adult. His jokes were corny but they part of his way of brightening the day for all of us.
Most importantly, Doug was a really decent guy in all aspects of his life.

My condolences to Marilyn and his family. Gary Birch

Our sincere condolences to Marilyn and all the family. I met Doug at St. Andrew's church and have enjoyed many happy times with him in our choir and at various events. He was always friendly, positive, helpful, hard-working, and endowed with a wonderful quirky sense of humour. A true gentleman. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

I knew Doug for the last 15 years of the Hamilton Men Teachers' Choir. His personality was the type which made that group so successful - what a happy bunch of guys! He will be missed. RIP

Doug was a kind, generous and compassionate man. He was my school neighbour and teaching partner for almost 15 years. I recall a truly “gentle” man who loved his family, his job, his church and life in general. Who could forget his kooky sense of humour and his philosophy of safety first and his get the “yes sir” habit. He was a fabulous colleague who was supportive of any idea presented to him - a real team player. Every year he would shut down the power tools in his room to bring his class to my room. He would roll up his sleeves to help prepare many a multicultural meal with our students. Boy, did he love to eat! He will be fondly remembered. Condolences to Marilyn and the boys.

So sorry to hear of Doug's passing. He worked on my staff at C. B. Stirling when I was principal. He was always a positive fellow who rarely complained or spoke negatively about anyone, even his most challenging students.
And yes, the corny jokes were a part of his daily repertoire. You knew when you met him anywhere, you'd leave with a smile.

Quietly thinking of his family and loved ones.

Much respect.

Sending my heartfelt condolences Marilyn to you and the boys. I was fortunate to have had Douglas for my teacher in two different grades at Buchanan Park. My favourite teacher ever with his super patient, kind and Christian influences on all students is what made Doug the superb educator that he truly demonstrated. As a student, never dreamed that one day moving onto Sanatorium Rd. we would become neighbours. God bless your family.

We were very sorry to hear of Doug's passing. We both have many fond memories of working with him at Law field many years ago. His enthusiasm and sense of humour have never been forgotten. Doug was an usher at Sharon and my wedding in 1966.
I was in Doug's grade 9 class at Hill Park SS>
He was a great guy who was very handy. I could always count on him to fix my car in the 60's.
I remember when Doug worked part time at Dominion store on Upper James. He came to school one day all excited because you could buy a quarter pound hamburger at Dominion store lunch counter, (35 cents). Guess where we went for lunch that noon-hour?
I regret we never saw each other for over 50 years.
I am thinking of his family at this difficult time.
Great guy and high school buddy.
