CANNING, Derek
It is with heavy hearts that we
announce the sudden passing of
Derek Mansell Edward Canning.
After a long, hard battle with lung
cancer, he passed away surrounded
by family at Jurvinski Hospital on
July 4, 2019 at the young age of 48.
He will be greatly missed by his
beloved wife of 23 years, Alison
Canning. Proud father of Patrick
Chernesky, Brett Chernesky, Tory
Chernesky, Alysha Canning, Gage
Canning, and Rayven-Storm Canning.
Loving son of Sharron and Mansell
Canning, son-in-law of Patricia and
Russel Chernesky. Big brother to
Nadine Canning, dear uncle to Tarrin
Canning, treasured grandfather to
Calixa Rankin, and also a devoted
father figure to many. Derek certainly
enjoyed a life well lived, full of family,
friends and music. His talent and music
will live on through his children and
many friends whom he had taught
to play. Although he had a rough
exterior, Derek loved to tell his
corny, yet hilarious, "dad jokes" and
had an infectious laugh that could
light up the room, which he carried
with him until the end. Private
family visitation will be held from
11:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. at M.A Clark
& Sons Funeral Home at 567 Upper
Wellington Street in Hamilton on
Wednesday, July 10th. Open visitation
will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m.
followed by the service at 1:00 p.m.
with the reception afterward. As per
Derek's request, casual dress and
band t-shirts are highly encouraged.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the
Canadian Cancer Society or a charity
of your choice would be greatly
appreciated
We are so very sorry for your loss. Derek's humour and love of music will be remembered fondly. His love for his family was very apparent and will always stay with you. I hope your many happy memories of him help carry you through the darker days. You are all in our thoughts.
